It’s important to get into good habits about drinking water consistently throughout the day. Some people just enjoy water, and hydrate themselves enough on their own. Others need to be reminded to not end up dehydrated. You could keep a water bottle within arm’s length on your desk so you’re reminded. You can also download one of many available apps like Waterlogged, Daily Water, and Idrated to help with this.

Cerha utilized the bank of harmonic direction that Berg left behind in his piece — the geometry and notational patterns — to finalize the movement and motion of the remaining material so that it was as respectful to Berg’s musical linguistics as possible. After Helene’s death, Cerha’s secretly finished version could finally be unveiled through a 1979 performance led by conductor Pierre Boulez. The rest is history.

An example of this might be using Sibelius to augment students’ learning and practice within a Western section of their curriculum, but introducing digital worksheets, sound libraries, and notational software to learn about Indonesian gamelan composition. Students may discuss what is gained and lost in comparative studies, what shadows exist in traditional software related to microtonal and quartertonal notation, how sound libraries can skew our perceptions of orchestral roles, etc.

Although we’ve been happy with our lender (and grateful to be in our house), in hindsight the process may have gone smoother had we gone to one of the Music Row banks. We were also thrown for a loop every time they asked for more documentation, or more details, or letters from our bosses.

Thinking about what’s in it for the venue can also help you learn how to better sell your band in other marketing arenas. For example, if you’re angling to land a show opening for a bigger band touring through your town, the economy of that inquiry is pretty much in favor of the venue, the band, and their management. As you may already know, the use of music and lyrics in karaoke is another mechanical use that can be another source of songwriter royalties. Aside from the kick you’ll get out of hearing your friends and total strangers belting out your songs at the local bar, you’ll also earn royalties every time someone sings your song. Licensing your music for use with karaoke could also potentially generate royalty income in a number of different ways including publishing, mechanical, and synchronization rights.
